A Journey Toward Independence
Elias is a five-year-old boy diagnosed with oxygen deprivation at birth. As the youngest child in his family, his mother noticed early on that his development was different from that of his older siblings. He was slower to reach key milestones, which raised her concerns and pushed her to seek medical advice.
Over time, she visited several doctors, until the diagnosis of oxygen deprivation was finally confirmed. Receiving the diagnosis was an extremely difficult moment for her emotionally. She describes it as a shock that weighed heavily on her mental health. However, she decided to be strong for the sake of her son. With the support of her family, she began dedicating more time to Elias, working closely with him at home and doing everything she could to support his development.
For years, her biggest dream was to see her child walk, this happened when Elias began to receive Comprehensive Rehabilitation at the Centre. After Elias’s first admission, the family received a structured Home Therapy Program. His mother committed herself fully to applying it, step by step. One day, at home, Elias suddenly began to walk. Both his mother and father were overwhelmed with disbelief and joy. It was a moment they describe as unforgettable, clear proof of how the right intervention, at the right place, can change a child’s life.
The progress Elias achieved at the Centre became a powerful source of motivation for his mother to continue. Today, she strongly believes in the importance of early and correct intervention for children with disabilities. She emphasizes that early intervention is extremely sensitive and can determine a child’s entire developmental path.
Her dream for Elias is simple: that he grows up to be independent and able to rely on himself in daily life. Beyond her role as a mother, she has also become a source of support for other families. She now helps mothers understand how to reach the Jerusalem Princess Basma Centre and guides them through the steps needed to prepare for admission.
Through her journey, her own understanding of disability has grown significantly. The training and guidance she received at the Centre expanded her knowledge to the extent that a physiotherapist once assumed she was a professional therapist herself. She proudly replied that everything she knows, she learned through her experience and education at the Jerusalem Princess Basma Centre.
Elias now moves confidently around the Centre, exploring every corner with joy and ease. He has grown stronger and more empowered, greeting everyone he meets with a bright smile. His positive energy fills the space around him, and his progress during therapy sessions continues to be remarkable, reflecting both his determination and the impact of consistent, specialized care.
