A mother who found a way to realize her dreams
Kinan, now two years and four months old, was diagnosed with a physical disability and referred to the Child Rehabilitation Centre at the Jerusalem Princess Basma Centre. His first admission was at the age of one year and eight months.
His mother describes that his therapeutic process before coming to the JPBC a slow, but four admissions at the JPBC have greatly improved Kinan’s progress. In addition, both parents joined his therapeutic sessions at the Centre, where they were trained to support their son in his personalized ‘Home Therapy Plan’ to continue his rehabilitation at home. Kinan’s mother regards her experience as a whole family commitment, with the online therapy within the Virtual Care Program, mid-pandemic, as especially having: "created a great opportunity for us as a family to continue Kinan’s therapeutic journey".
As I don’t work, I’m the key person who implements the Home Therapy Plan for Kinan, while his father and siblings join me in implementing the plan in their free time.

In addition to the Rehabilitation package of services for Kinan on each admission, his family received services from our social worker, both face to face and virtually: “Before coming to the (JPBC) Centre, I was always crying because I didn’t have any idea of how to help my son; I didn’t understand his needs. Now after the awareness-raising sessions and the psychosocial support, my dreams for Kinan have been formed.”
His mother has recognized her son’s achievements after each admission. He now walks with walker assistance, can pronounce a number of words, and express his feelings: “Before I met the JPBC team, my dreams were blurry and my vision of the future of my son was dull. However, the team set a goal for each child at every admission to the Centre, and by the end of our stay, my child achieves that goal. Then we return to the Centre again and an even bigger goal is set. At the JPBC, I found a way of creating big dreams and know my path towards achieving these dreams.”
