Zain’s Story: A Supportive Family and a Comprehensive Rehabilitation Program
Zain is a one-year and ten-month-old, that came from Nablus to receive Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services at The Jerusalem Princess Basma Centre. He faces unique challenges that have limited his mobility. His mother noticed delays in his development compared to other children in his age, this encouraged her to consult several doctors. After an MRI, it was determined that he would need intensive treatment and rehabilitation services to be able to move and walk. In August 2024, Zain’s family arrived at The Jerusalem Princess Basma Centre to begin his Comprehensive Rehabilitation journey.
Since his initial admission, Zain has recieved intensive therapy sessions, and his mother highlighted his rapid improvement through these sessions. Zain has become more social, and his muscle and nerve tension have significantly reduced. He can now feed himself, though he still needs some assistance. Additionally, Zain can now sit with support, which has positively impacted his mental state and that of his family. His mother shared that he did not have these skills before receiving two admissions at JPBC.
Zain’s father also shared that his son had difficulty sleeping. However, since he started receiving rehabilitation services at JPBC, both parents have gained a better understanding of their son’s condition. They learned how to create a routine that provides comfort for Zain and helps them understand and meet his needs. Zain now sleeps regularly, and both parents actively participate in implementing his home therapy program, integrating it into their daily lives.
Zain’s father also participates in therapy sessions with him three days a week, deepening his understanding of his son’s needs. He noted that thanks to the Mother and Family Empowerment Program and the ongoing support provided by the social worker, he has become more aware not only of Zain’s condition but has also gained an appreciation for his wife’s efforts to improve their son’s life. This has fostered a sense of respect and a desire for shared responsibility within the family. Socially, the family faces challenges related to stigma, but they confront these challenges with strength and resilience, feeling a deep sense of pride in their son and offering him unwavering support in every way possible.
